Good to hear. Sounds like a regression in 295.*.
Did you have a look at the nvidia forum? If this problem is not yet
known there, this needs to be reported (or more information is to be
added to an existing thread).
NVIDIA's bug reporting instructions are here:

Of course you'll have to upgrade again to the latest version and have
this fail so that you can collect the required logs. But since ssh is
still working, this should be easy.
