which used: nvidia driver 295.40, Xserver 1.11, kernel 3.2-rt
now we are talking about nvidia 304.37, Xserver 1.12, kernel 3.2(-rt), a
huge difference

May things have changed in 302.xx and 304.xx due to improved xrandr
support. Read the Nvidia documentation. If this doesn't help, use the
Nvidia forum.

only if you are eager to do this, but it seems there is a configuration
where the current driver works for you

I think anything non-vanilla is not supported by Nvidia. Perhaps you
find some information in the Nvidia forum.

squeeze-backports has the 295.59 driver and Xserver 1.11 or 1.10, in
case you want to try them.
