Bug#695869: Try replacing the video card

My theory is video cards have more transisitors
than other componenets, which 
    
    1.) increases the chance of them failing
    first, and

    2.) suggests some transitors might keep
    working after one failed.

I humbly suggest replacing the video card.

It worked for me.

I found a used one at an electronics recycler for
only $US 5.
