The usual way I test to make sure that bumblebee is working is simply:
$ optirun glxgears -info

If you see something like:
GL_RENDERER   = GeForce GT 630M/PCIe/SSE2
GL_VERSION    = 4.3.0 NVIDIA 325.15
GL_VENDOR     = NVIDIA Corporation

...then it's working. If mesa is being used, or if optirun crashes,
then something's wrong. ;)

There's also a wiki page on bumblebee [1], but most of it is
irrelevant or outdated now that bumblebee is packaged in Debian
proper.
