That doesn't fail, I get the normal gdm3 greeter.

Yes, that was OK, see screenshot1 for what happened.

Notice the different insmod arguments here, see screenshot2.
> ls -la /dev/nvidia*
Still shows 666, despite the insmod arguments.
> invoke-rc.d gdm3 start # expect: FAIL
Indeed fails.
By the way, after this, if I simply do this:
$ sudo rmmod nvidia
$ insmod /the/whole/path/to/nvidia-current.ko
all works fine.
So, it looks like these modprobe arguments are causing the issues
indeed. But why are they there not all the time?
