Problem upgrading nvidia

Dear all

it seems that some relations in the nvidia related packages are blocking 
an upgrade. I am since quite some time stuck in 375.82-1 without an
upgrade path. Aptitude/apt-get refuse to upgrade unless loads of libraries
are being removed. I am far from convinced that these libraries are
not necessary anymore, mainly 
	lib{gles,egl1,glx0-glvnd-nvidia}*   (amd64,i386)
and so on.

Could this be a consequence of having steam:i386 installed?

I tried to unwind the dependencies but it is a huge convolution with
the mixture of mesa and nvidia libs providing similar things.
