nvidia-driver stretch-backports

I spoke to a kernel developer about a regression problems with the MacBookPro 10,1 and was informed about
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/platform/x86/apple-gmux.c?id=d6fa7588fd7a8def4c747c0c574ce85d453e3788
and functional since kernel version 4.16.
So i tried to install that from Debian stretch-backports as described at https://backports.debian.org, but gave problems with nvidia-driver which i always had installed for the internal video card of which lspci says: "NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 650M Mac Edition] (rev a1)".
So i tried things like apt install -t stretch-backports linux-image-4.16.0-0.bpo.1 nvidia-driver.
Because it complained about missing dependencies and aptitude came with a huge amount of possible "solutions" of which none seemed to make sense, i started adding whatever "is not going to be installed" complaint to the apt line an got sucked into quite a dependency hell up to mesa conflicts and at the end when it finally installed with all dependencies satisfied, the computer could not boot anymore.
It seemed like booting the kernel and some init stuff up-to actual nvidia driver use (possibly by Xorg) and then a hard freeze of the computer.
It took me a very long time to revive it again via Debian installer's rescue mode and manually determining, downloading (on another computer) and installing packages from USB Flash with dpkg -i until i finally got to this list and got the computer booting again:

So in the end back where i started and still no 4.16 kernel.
I would like to thank you for making nvidia-driver available and also via stretch-backports, but would you be so kind to also describe what i should do to install it properly?
I apologize if it is described somewhere but missed it, please point me to it.
Thanks a lot in advance!
