Ok, finally I got it.
nvidia-persistenced is the one trying to load the nvidia driver while bbswitch
is active and has disabled the discrete card.
Once I removed this package, the system after a fresh boot is more consistent.
It is not clear why bbswitch became inconsistent regarding its status (wrt
/proc/acpi/bbswitch) in the first situation.
