For the issue with KDE6/Plasma6 & Qt I created a bug report upstream

Do you think you could modify nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver so that it ships your suggestion of minimal xorg.conf (or xorg.conf.d/*.conf snippet)?

            Identifier     "My GPU"
            Driver         "nvidia"
        EndSection

This config is now required when using the nvidia driver.
