Here's is my interpretation the responses from the OpenLDAP maintainers,
David:

Chances are great, especially if those doing the Skolelinux-specific
hacks join the OpenLDAP team and do the hacks there (rather than just
hand them the hacks, as they seem to have plenty to do already).
