<http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=ldbm&file=756> is a 
good resource on the differences between the various backends, including the 
multitude of problems with back-ldbm.  I vote for disabling it entirely, and 
having any ldbm users update to a more robust and stable backend.
