Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of sudo or setuidgid 
(daemontools).

I'll file an upstream ITS to allow slapindex/slapadd to support the -u/-g 
options that slapd does.  Since they are just different calls into the same 
binary, I'd expect it should be possible.
