Yes, I agree that this is something we should do.

There are a couple of folks in Ubuntu-land who might be likely candidates.
I spoke with both of them about the manpower question last week at UDS
Prague, hopefully they'll answer the call (as well as any other Debian folks
who are interested and in a position to help).

I don't think that should be an issue in practice unless there are library
ABI changes coming?

FWIW, one of the things we're hoping to accomplish for Ubuntu Intrepid (due
out in approximately the same timeframe as Lenny) is to switch the packaging
completely over to cn=config so that we can straightforwardly solve the need
for third-party packages to hook into a local LDAP server.  I would of
course love to see this packaging work take place in Debian unstable at the
same time, but that of course depends on you guys being willing to commit to
such an ambitious change in the given timeframe.  Howard Chu's opinion was
that we're officially "not insane" to attempt such a switch given the
current upstream state; what say you?
