Hi everyone,
I'm not sure this is exactly the right place, but I'd like to raise a
plea to update the OpenLDAP package from 2.4.10 to 2.4.11 for Debian
testing and release within lenny.
Several months ago, we upgraded one of our larger enterprise customers
from OpenLDAP 2.3 to 2.4 because we were seeing problems with entire
parts of the LDAP tree disappearing with syncprov/syncrepl replication
used in conjunction with glue. Unfortunately this showed up several
critical bugs in the 2.4 series syncrepl code which were logged in the
OpenLDAP ITS system, and eventually fixed by Howard.
The result of this is that only the latest 2.4.11 release remains stable
in our production environment, where by stable we mean the slapd process
doesn't segfault at random periods between 24 hours and several days.
So given that OpenLDAP 2.4.11 i) has now been promoted to stable above
the 2.3 series by the OpenLDAP project team and ii) is the only 2.4
version that has worked flawlessly for us in a real-life production
enronment involving syncrepl replication, please can it be considered
for upgrade in time for the release of lenny? Given the importance of
OpenLDAP backends for many enterprise installations, it would be a shame
to ship a version with known-bad syncrepl replication code especially
now as the slurpd alternative is no longer an option.
Many thanks,
Mark.
