looking at that thread, i see that Andreas Hasenack already suggested
peercred last year - though he forgot to CC me so I never knew about it.
Anyhow this certainly seems the way to go for locally running maintainer
scripts.

disregard that, looking at my old mails, I remembered that there are not
only dependencies between schemata, but there can also be hidden
dependencies from ACLs to a schema - so I guess it's just not worth the
hassle.
An upgrade path would make sense though.
