Please could you provide a debdiff of the changes relative to the
current unstable version?

This is a problem in gcj rather than db4.8. It looks like a recurrence
of an earlier problem where the versioned dependencies between gcc-4.4
and gcj-4.4 are not sufficiently strictly enforced.

-2 already has a freeze exception and hasn't migrated purely because of
the db4.8 issues. In terms of -3, I'd like to see the debdiff first.
