That would need to be filed as bugs against the packages that are using
debconf to generate this file. debconf itself doesn't add newlines to
things. I suspect that the package maintainer scripts in those specific
packages are using something akin to:
echo "$RET" > /etc/libnss-ldap.secret
which is invalid for files that need to be used by ldapsearch -y.
But this isn't something that can be fixed in the openldap package (apart
from changing ldapsearch -y, and I think it's a bad idea to diverge from
upstream).
