[Pkg-openldap-devel] Backporting slapd out of jessie to wheezy possible?

Hi,

Following the REJECT, I'm not sure what the status of this is. I assume
formorer's comments mean the +really approach is a no go, and simply
re-uploading with a fixed changes file wouldn't be enough. Does that
mean we're dropping the idea?

I looked briefly at db5.3. It recently started to use
dpkg-maintscript-helper dir_to_symlink (#759041), added after wheezy,
but 5.3.28-5 built in wheezy without changes, and openldap built against
that passed its test suite. The dependencies were already satisfied.

(I haven't tested any functionality outside of what openldap uses,
though, so I don't know yet whether things like the language bindings
actually work.)

If we wanted to pursue that, I'm not sure whether it would be worse to
knowingly introduce the RC bug in -backports, or to reimplement/embed
dir_to_symlink in order to backport the current testing version.

Are there other reasons why backporting db would be a bad idea?
Otherwise maybe I'll write to its maintainers about whether they'd be
willing to backport it, or approve us doing so on their behalf.

If that's not possible either, I think I'm really out of ideas...

thanks,
Ryan
