Appreciated. If there are any bugs it'd be great to squash them before 
releasing the package. :)

Improving this is on my (lengthy) TODO list, but basically, the scripts 
assume that if /etc/ldap/slapd.d exists, then it contains a valid 
configuration. If you delete the directory, it'll generate a new 
configuration and then the init script ought to work. Alternatively, you 
could temporarily disable (chmod -x or policy-rc.d) the init script, 
long enough to finish the upgrade.
