Testing LDAP related software

Hi,

there is a new sssd team forming, and I'd like the OpenLDAP team to know
about that. I don't have too much clue about LDAP in practice as well,
and most prominently, I don't run an LDAP environment where I could test
new versions of sssd before uploading.

I would have to build myself an OpenLDAP server and pre-fill it with
some test accounts that could be used for easy testing. I am wondering
whether it would be a smart idea to just put that server on a dedicated,
throwaway VM (with ansible recipies to easily redeploy) (with LDAP and
LDAPS) and to publish a read-only LDAP account and the relevant data of
the directory contents (passwords etc).

That way, everybody working on sssd and other LDAP-related software
could easily use that server as a reference server to test their
software without having to deploy their own server.

What do you think about this?

Greetings
Marc
