Package: openssl
Severity: wishlist

openssl-0.9.8 is in beta testing right now:
http://www.openssl.org/news/state.html
http://www.openssl.org/source/

If everything is OK, it will be released on 2005-06-19

Experimental packaging should be started to give feedback to upstream in
the following issues:
- API/ABI compatibility with 0.9.7
- inconsistencies with Debian or Debian standards
- any possible patents and licensing issues

Having two separate API/ABIs for OpenSSL has had problems in Debian
packaging in the past so it would be a great idea to try to convince
upstream to keep API/ABI compatibility and ease the Debian integration.

I already posted about API/ABI compatibility issues in the mailing list
but nobody bothered to reply, so maybe we should take care of this
problem.

Is anyone already looking about packaging openssl-0.9.8?
