Hello,

Since glibc 2.7, the GNU libc supports SHA256 and SHA512 based passwords.
Support in shadow was added in version 4.1.0. You can also find some
information, the specification and a public domain implementation in:
  http://people.redhat.com/drepper/sha-crypt.html
  http://people.redhat.com/drepper/SHA-crypt.txt

It would be nice to be able to produce these passwords using
`openssl passwd`
