I did such purge and reinstalled all the four following:
# dpkg --list | grep sabre
ii php-sabre-dav 2.2.0~really2.1.3-1
all WebDAV Framework for PHP
ii php-sabre-event 2.0.1-2
all lightweight library for event-based development
ii php-sabre-http 3.0.4-2
all library to ease the work with HTTP protocol
ii php-sabre-vobject 3.4.2-1
all library to parse and manipulate iCalendar and vCard objects
No changes.

No error message during the owncloud upgrade via the web interface.
Still the same. korganizer trying to update the calendar shows:
2015/05/07 15:01:52 [error] 23466#0: *46449 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP Fatal
error: Class 'OC_VObject' not found in
/usr/share/owncloud/apps/calendar/lib/object.php on line 169" while reading
response header from upstream, client: XXXX, server: ~^cloud, request: "PUT
/remote.php/caldav/calendars/XXXX/defaultcalendar/1431003711.R108.ics
HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "XXXX"
Trying to update the calendar with the web interface shows:
PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function DateTimeZone() in
/usr/share/owncloud/apps/calendar/lib/object.php on line 891
Ok. So far I wanted to test the mail app for owncloud to get rid of roundcube.
Turns out it's far from being worth it.
I'll revert back to owncloud 7 and will move back to 8 when it'll be in debian
testing (so it'll be easier to get a more consistent set of packages).
Anyway, thanks a lot for your assistance, good to know that owncloud is
maintained so seriously :-)
