FIW, I'm on XFCE on testing, and the icon is more or less visible wit
1.7.0~beta1+really1.6.4+dfsg-1 although it doesn't resize to the height
of the menu, so is rendered with 2 sides painted black.

Maybe there's a regression with later versions.
