Sure, I sort of know that. This only means that updating fpc needs to go
in lockstep with rebuilding lazarus (and cge and ??). My main question
is: are there known reasons why lazarus 1.4.x build with fpc 3.0.0 would
not work properly (or why we shouldn't even try to do this in Debian).

Not really true as the old packages will only be removed (uncrufted)
when no other packages depend on them. So we are good here.

Which is good and proper IMO, I assume that is what you meant.
