Hi,
Since you are already a group of two, and you sound commited about that package, there is from my point of view no reason to urge you to join the group. Even "real" group members maintain related packages still on their own when they think it is fit. So as long as you think you are up to it you can do as you wish.

Jay Bonci and I are currently in the process of adopting a stack of packages related to AxKit, most of which were orphaned recently by Ardo. (I started on this prior to the formation of the pkg-perl group.)
I am not certain whether group maintenance is the right thing for some of these packages, but I'm willing to be convinced. (Some are apache/mod_perl specific, and have to be tested in special frameworks; others involve XSUB code built against rapidly evolving libraries like libxml2, and need to be tested with tools like valgrind before being released.)
In any case, I share the goals of the pkg-perl project and would like to contribute, but I'm stretched a little thin right now. I do subscribe to debian-perl and track the group's general activity, and will check back in when I've gotten a few things off my plate.
Cheers,
- Michael

I don't want to push anyone - if he wants to maintain it on his own, that's ok. Would be different if he just does not know about the Debian Perl Group, but that's unlikely, as it was announced on d-d-announce.

Maybe you should contact the new maintainer about joining the group.

It seems that there is a new maintainer for this package.
