libapache2-mod-perl2_2.0.4-3/ia64 build failure

Hi ia64 buildd admins,
libapache2-mod-perl2_2.0.4-3 failed to build on caballero with weird
errors, pasted below. Note the shell-init error on the top and the
fact that Makefile.PL definitely exists when 031-test-extra-args.patch
is applied.
It looks a bit like something is removing the build tree from underneath
the build process. I can't see anything suggesting it's the fault of
the package itself, and it built OK on other architectures. Could you
please look into it?
