this email made me think "hm. so none of us can get it to segfault,
and yet it segfaults on a lot of the buildds, and the buildds don't
have home directories, and we do...I wonder..." and it turns out that
gregoa's patch making the tests get ran with /tmp as $HOME actually
fixes the FTBFS too! :)
