if one uses the wrong kernel layer for the device this behaviour is normal.
so can you try to use the cddb.pl tool that comes with the package and
specify the device:
cddb.pl -c /dev/hda
providing this is the cdrom device. i can't provide support for cddbget sorry.
just the module and the (test)tool that comes with it.
you are on 64bit right?
