I tried to reproduce with the following:
$ git clone https://github.com/mfontani/git-fuse-perl.git
$ cd git-fuse-perl
$ make start-fuse
to test git-fuse, and it seems to work here.
Do you have some minimal example at hand where it fails for you, with
the message given?
