Bug#659526: dh-make-perl: error on build of directory

A build of a named directory like

    wget http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/S/SI/SIMONW/Acme-Lingua-Strine-Perl-0.54.tar.gz
    tar xfz Acme-Lingua-Strine-Perl-0.54.tar.gz

    dh-make-perl --no-network --build Acme-Lingua-Strine-Perl-0.54

builds the .deb but ends with an error

    fatal: pathspec 'Acme-Lingua-Strine-Perl-0.54' did not match any files
    add Acme-Lingua-Strine-Perl-0.54: command returned error: 128

It seems orright if you cd to the directory and them just --build, but
if I'm not mistaken the man page describes acting on a given directory,
not just the current directory.
