Good question; it's basically what Alioth uses/provides but I don't
know if this is spelt out somewhere explicitly.

Right, I can see now that this message might be misleading and could
be improved.
Next try:
"URL is not the canonical one for repositories hosted on Alioth."
(Now we have en_IT and en_AT, let's see what dod says in en_FR; and
maybe we also get a native speaker :))
