I don't see gnome-vfs anywhere in d/control for libgnome2-perl?

Or did you mean the build and runtime dependency on
libgnome2-vfs-perl?

Ah, the generated Depends contains libgnomevfs2-0, which sounds more
like gnome-vfs ...
 
Which seems to be useless?

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: package could avoid a useless dependency if debian/libgnome2-perl/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.24/auto/Gnome2/Gnome2.so was not linked against libgnomevfs-2.so.0 (it uses none of the library's symbols)
