Correct, in 2.0.52 of 2012 which shipped with Wheezy.

Define "correctly", If you purge debsums, it will be removed and
that's IMHO correct. (Setting the severity to minor because of that.)

You've got a point there. If the file existed and the package was
upgraded, the file was renamed to 90debsums.bak unconditionally.

That would be one option (let's call it "1"). I see two other options,
though, too:

2. Leave as is and clean the file up only upon purge. (Status quo)

3. Try to figure out the hashsum of the last shipped 90debsums file in
   2.0.51 and of the debsums version in Debian 6.0 Squeeze and only
   remove the file if it matches one of these two hashsums.

>From my point of view, option 1 (your request) is a grey area wrt. to
handling of conffiles in the Policy.

Option 2 is the lazy option: It's IMHO correct, but suboptimal.

Option 3 seems to the best solution, but also needs the most effort.

I wonder if option 3 is really worth that effort.
