I just got a reply from upstream, and the author says he doesn't think
it's a bug. So maybe wait on applying the patch until we've figured out
whether it's a bug or not. The issue on the request tracker is here:

it by sending email to <bug-Net-Telnet at rt.cpan.org> with the string
"[rt.cpan.org #133371]" in the Subject header.
