I'm sorry to hear that you have issues with the current libxml-libxml-perl
version.

In the diff against the previous version I see no mention of
getElementById; also there are no related bug reports in the Debian
BTS, in the CPAN RT, or in the upstream Github issues.

What I see in the upstream Changes file are some behaviour changes,
eg.
    - Disable loading external DTDs or external entities by default
maybe they are related to the problems you're experiencing?


Could you please provide some more information and/or examples of
what doesn't work for you?


In the meantime I'm tagging the bug "moreinfo" and lowering the
severity.
