Bug#1012570: libintl-xs-perl: gettext_xs never used

Package: libintl-xs-perl
Version: 1.26-3
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
I am migrating some systems from stretch to bullseye. These systems use
Locale::TextDomain (part of libintl-perl) to do some translations.
On bullseye I was getting some wrong responses, and the difference turned out
to be that stretch is using the XS version but bullseye is not. I determined
this by modifying Locale::Messages to warn about the status of the $no_xs
variable.
I note that the file gettext_xs.pm was removed for all architectures except
mips between buster and bullseye.
I copied /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.24/Locale/gettext_xs.pm from a
stretch system to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.32/Locale/gettext_xs.pm
on bullseye, and now the XS version is being loaded successfully and I'm
getting the right answers.
Am I missing something in how libintl-xs-perl is supposed to be used?
Thanks!
