Perl 5.44.0 has been in experimental for a while now, and this bug
is a blocker for getting it into sid and forky. Raising the severity
accordingly.

If you want to test changes against Perl 5.44 in experimental and run
into uninstallability problems, there is a test repository of rebuilt
Debian sid packages for amd64 available at <https://perl.debian.net/>.
