Ok, I tried on another box, and 2011.4 works as expected.
Literally no idea why.

Could that be a GL driver bug?
On this particular box I have an hd4000, whereas on the working machine
I have an nvidia card.

First thing I tried too.
Though rotating the image through the third mouse button works (!).
