sorry for the long awaited reply, I have not been very well and only
getting behind a computer screens made it worse so had to have so time
away, but finally stubbled on this gem, so....

dale at spock:~$ lsusb | grep Canon
Bus 007 Device 022: ID 04a9:3217 Canon, Inc. 
dale at spock:~$ ls -l /dev/bus/usb/007/022
crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 789 Sep 14 21:20 /dev/bus/usb/007/022

that is my outputs for the to commands you wanted me to run.
