I see that the sse4.1 requirement is only a flaw of the build system, thus
it should be possible to compile for the arch's baseline. The package has
legitimate use cases on older computers, thus there's no reason to
hard-require CPU extensions.
If there's a drastic speed difference with and without vectorization, it's
possible to build two variants, either in a single executable (selected at
runtime) or separately. When built as a single executable, GCC even has
nice support for auto-selecting appropriate variant.
