Loading some DNG files causes darktable to crash after 30 seconds,
seemingly tied to generating thunbnail for the image.
Every start of darktable after that crash will crash similarly, until
~/.config/darktable is removed.

Upstream tracked and has solved this issue at
https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/issues/8951

At upstream issue tracking is mentioned that the file they used as proof
was arguably broken.

I experienced the issue (confirmed to be the same: Applying upstream
patch makes the program not crash and instead generate a thumbnail in
roughly same time: 30 seconds) with DNG files generated by megapixels
in the Librem 5 phone, and one of the phone developer told me that those
DNG files comply with the specification.  I can provide samples if
needed.
