I like your way to edit package.xml to remove files, and just adopted it

Please note that I removed the matching lines (sed //d) instead of
deleting their content, you may wish to do the same in the future.

andrea, on top of that, I even removed the PACKAGE and COMPONENT
variables in rules (in case you feel like following these last thoughts):
