Upgrading to 8.2 would be another option.  In a few cases, the
improved planner support for table partitioning is quite handy.

In-place upgrades are not supported at this stage.  (This is a
PostgreSQL limitation.)  For this reason, we try to combine PostgreSQL
updates with hardware migrations.

Does the 560 GB include indices?  30 hours sounds excessive.
