No, we can't. Things that are in stable remain in stable. We can
hardly remove packages from all those DVDs, CDs, etc. out there. :-)

If that ever happened, it is a gross exception, presumably for things
which were determined to be undistributable (license issues).

Aside from the fact that removing packages from stable releases is
very wrong, it wouldn't help us in this case. Instead of a package
not being available any more after a dist-upgrade (which happens all
the time and is perfectly normal), you'd now get it when using a
stable release.

We can't pull supported packages from stables, that would break user's
trust in Debian severely.

How is that a new issue? It's the very answer we give if you upgrade
from etch to lenny and still need 7.4 or 8.1.
