Aye, thanks for the report!

Fwiw, the reason this hasn't been spotted so far is because we are
still looking for help maintaining pgpool2 - none of the PostgreSQL
maintainers in Debian is actually using the package, so we haven't
stumbled over that yet. (https://bugs.debian.org/772047)
