Note: I got several errors, the one about out of memory did not always
happen but the AssertionError apparently did.

It was not transient (I got three failures in a row on 20250102),
and it was not only in my machine:

I believe there was indeed a problem.
If you think some build-dependency was to blame for this, we could use
debbisect to know which one.
