In principle yes. Btw, newer Lintian versions complain about the placement of the package in the ‘python' section, as mat and mat-gut are executables but the ‘python' section is meant for libraries:  

  X: mat: application-in-library-section python usr/bin/mat usr/bin/mat-gui

IMHO that’s not a blocker either but one might think to perhaps split libmat and the executables into multiple binary packages in the future. I’m reluctant to do this now as new binary packages would mean another round of sitting in NEW for this upload...
