Basically, there is no fix yet and instead of leaving people with a
false sense of security, this has been removed, according to a decision
mentioned here https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=826101

You might want to retitle this bug report as "Please bring back PDF
support to mat"?
