Actually, the same source compiled just fine once I autoreconf'd it.  Looking 
at the libltdl headers, LTDL_SET_PRELOADED_SYMBOLS doesn't define the preloaded 
symbol table, just generates a reference to it.  So my guess is, the problem 
is an old ltmain.sh that doesn't generate that table properly.
